On 26/3/2010 the digital greek national television presented our project! Me and seven of the last year's children talked about our collaboration and remembered beautiful moments! It was really nice to see how we still remember all the things we did last year and our beloved friends from Poland and UK!

Project in a Polish competition for an eTwinning web page

Here in Poland we take part in a simmilar competition as our Greek friends received a second place for a blog.
Our blog displays four of projects we were doing past 5 years of eTwinning, so then it is a great part for "Let`s give a breath to Earth" as well.

In 22-24 January 2010, the 4rth Pan-Hellenic Symposium of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and the Cultural Heritage will be held on Athens, Greece, with main theme "Sustainable school of present and future". "Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of climate change issues. But there’s more to it than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It’s all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet, and the chance to send a message of hope to world leaders".
All of us, kids and adults, can vote by making a paper latern with a personal message to world leaders and send it to Copenhagen for the UN Climate Conference. In this way we can tell them why we want them to do something about global warming.
As it can be difficult to send it in time, your family can also make a virtual lattern which will be treated as your voice for the planet.
It’s fun, it’s creative and it lets kids have their say on the planet they’ll inherit.

The eLearning Awards are organised by European Schoolnet (a network of 31 Ministries of Education) for that to acknowledge and highlight teachers and schools’ best practices in the pedagogical use of ICT.

It was so sad for us to finish our eTwinning collaboration with "Let`s give a breath to Earth" that we decided to continue our exceptional work with a project for whole kindergarten kids!

We use main of the project ideas and many of its resources devided into four parts like in four elements of nature. So this year 165 children work with the project, which we called "Eko Żywioły" (what means: Eco Elements of Nature).

Although our project is over I would like to share with you a picture and a video that show how our environmental project affected children in a good way! Spyros, found by chance eggs of a sea turtle in Lefkada, during his summer holidays. With his father help, they moved away all the chairs and umbrellas from the beach and helped baby turtles to find their way to the sea.

We took part in the National contest for the best blog that Greek NSS organized and we took the second prize for the greek version of our blog, that contains all our uploadings here translated in greek, in the kindergarten/primary schools category. Congratulations to all!!

During our summer presentation children received their certificates for our prize!We had the honour to have with us Mrs Aggelopoulou, the head of the 3rd Office of Primary Education in the D Region of Athens. The Nature court has to find out what's going wrong with Planet Earth! Wind, Sea, Rain and a parrot, representative of animals talk about the problems they face due to pollution!The solution?Small children can make the difference and give a breath to earth!

On Tuesday 9th our team visited an Educational Path which is devided to the Forest live and creatures.
We enjoyed all surprises on the path like bee yards, ponds, places for feeding animals and many others. It was also the great possibility to come into the special room where we could touch the animals` figures and its fur, listen to the songs about them and meet forester...

As Polish kids also received many gifts from Greek friends (which were brought to Poland by Mrs Irene - teacher from Greece)we decided to organize a Greek Day in our kindergarten. We played Greek music and tasted typical sweets. They were really yummy! Children were playing a sea board game as well. It was surprising to see the "Sky city " book in printed version! Many surprises in an exceptional Greek Day...

We have made a special place for our international garden. We have split the garden into three - one part for English seeds, one part for Polish seeds and one part for Greek seeds. We planted and watered the seeds. Now we are excited to see what will grow!

Yesterday we visited Archelon, the only hospital for injured sea turtles Caretta-Caretta in Greece. The centre is close to the sea, weather was sunny and hot and we had a great time although we became sad when we learnt about the way sea turtles are injured and visit five injured sea turtles.here you can enjoy some photos of our visit!

In the UK we have the Forestry Commission. They are responsible for taking care of our forests and woodlands. They have a set of rules about how to behave in a forest. We used these to make our poster.

The children in all three schools have worked together to write a story for our project. Children from Greece began the story, children from Poland wrote the middle of the story, and the children from England ended the story. The children drew the pictures to go with their part of the story. Our story is called 'The story of Skycity'. We hope you enjoy it!

Every of us know how important is to save forests. Trees offer us oxygen.They use water so they help stop floods. What is more, forest are shelters to many animals. It is obvious that we all should protect them.
Kids were talking about all forest`s importance and it`s future (which doesn`t look bright if humans still turn forest into fields or use trees for paper). They drew nice pictures showing jungle, cutted down areas and these which were destroyed by fire setting...

The three schools decided to make a kind of advertisement for the protection of forests. We decided on the text,each class made its videos and then we connected all the videos and made one in three languages, english,polish and greek. Our visit in the place of segregation and recycling

On Tuesday, 5th of May, our Team had an opportunity to visit a place of rubbish segregation and recycling in Zabrze. We saw some typical places in there where plastic and paper is collected and segregated, soil is made from the grass and leaves, and electronical staff or batteries are collected.
We realized how hard is the work of people working in such a place. What is more, we saw what we can really receive from rubbish instead of throwing it into municipal waste dump.

TOYS FROM RUBBISH - Family competition in Poland

Here you can see toys made in a family competition we organized in Poland. Surprising, how much other staff it is possible to make from rubbish we usually thow out! Everyone is surprised... Congratulations to all!

Results (Adults Awards) are not announced yet - kids and their parents need to wait till 6th of June (we will have our fun fair then). In the deepest secret we can tell you that kindergarten kids also voted for their Kids Award. Winners are: Oskar (with his "Spider"), Pawel (with his "Spacecraft") and Vanessa ("Pram"). Congratulations! Now, we are eagerly waiting for the UK toys to vote for International Kids Awards!

Our Team went outside of the kindergarten with special gloves for that to gather some rubbish. Not many people care about it and take the rubbish out anywhere, like people in Sky city did one day.
We understand the need of keeping it clean.

Polish kids had a special lesson reminding about the recycling matter...

All these rubbish smell disgusting!

Every kid knows that it is good to recycle rubbish. This small action gives us a great power and help to the Earth.

In the kindergarten we recycle compost, paper, plastic and glass with a help of coloured boxes. Colours are given for each kind of rubbish bins, the same in every place in Poland.
Blue bins are for paper:

Yellow ones are for plastic:

Green ones are for glass only.

Let`s all recycle!

We have made recycling bins for our school. We can recycle lots of things here, but people do not always know where to put their rubbish. Our signs make it clear what should go in each bin. Now people are using the bins properly, and we can recycle lots more!

This is the story we all made about a city, a very nice city where people lived hapilly. Unfortunately everything changed one day...

Here, the Greek children started the story and painted their part, then they sent their part to the Polish children, who continued the story and drew their pictures.In the same way they sent the two parts to the English children who finished the story. After uploading all the drawings, each school narrated our common story to their mother language!!
So, everybody can understand it! Isn't that a nice way of collaboration?

We want clean Bytomka!!!

That came a day when our group went for the demonstration concerning the Bytomka matter. As we had many lessons and discussions about its pollution and possible improvements, decided to take actions by demonstration in one of our city parks.

We took our banner with a sentence: "We want clean Bytomka" and shouted it during our walk through the park. Our faces were covered by protection masks so people seemed to be surprised because of our appearance.People have had a short description of our project and address of the project blog given as an invitation to common action for the environment improvement.

That day we have officially adopted the part of Bytomka river (Gosia holds the Adoption Certificate in the picture) as a part of "Adopt a river" programme.

What is more, kids and teachers were dressed in blue (to show the expected colour of the river). We were reading kids poems and singing songs about rivers and environmental issues there.

We ordered wind for kites!

Dear Friends!

We were waiting for the "Flying Kites Day" for a long time.

Firstly, it was freezing cold which forced us to postpone the event.

This time we finally went to the park to announced the community some environmental advice. The weather was great and sun was shining as we expected, but there was almost no wind!!! Even that we decided to make some trials...

Were doing our best to help the kite fly. Running and shouting didn`t help at all. But it was really funny even that.
Everyone wanted to run with a kite, so that we spent a lot of time in the park. Too much time, we can say, because finally we all were late for kindergarten lunch:)

Do not worry, we got our food and it was really tasty. Kites were giving some advises for humans to follow if we want to give breath to Earth. To help people understand what we are going to say, we were giving our drawings and blog address to the people in park.

Hi, Friends!

We finally finished a kite building. The shape is Greek, as you can see. Drawings are made by ourselves, of course... There is a beautiful spring meadow for which we are all waiting for:Now there is nothing else to do but to wait till our common "Flying kites Day" comes. Hope to have good weather conditions then:) So with a help of a great warm wind a kite will fly to the spring clean sky...Eagerly waiting...

To keep air possibly clean, people should remember that there are some products which pollute the atmosphere and those which do not. We can buy and use products with special symbols to reduce freons emission, prevent using animals for tests and many other matters...

We are extremely happy to tell you that Herman - the sturgeon - after long long looooooong journey has finally arrived in Poland.

It is unbelievable how many offices and institutions he had to visit before they let him come to our kindergarten!

What is the most important - exceptional Herman is with us now...

We looked at acid rain and what it is doing to our planet. We did an experiment to find out. We bought two plants, and watered one with water and one with acid rain. Look what happened...

This is the plant we watered with ordinary water. It is still very lovely after two weeks.

But look what has happened to our acid rain plant! If this is what acid rain is doing to the plants on our planet, what a terrible thing!

We have spent a lot of time talking about air pollution. We thought about different ways that we can be affected by air pollution.
We looked at the people in China who have to wear special masks to cycle in some cities because the air is so bad.

We like our masks and think they look very pretty...But we still think that we look better without them! Let's keep the air clean so we don't need to wear them!

REDUCING FUMES

This is a short picture story telling about the topic of fumes reducing. As you surely know, it is a straight connection between the mains of transport that people use and amount of fumes going to the atmosphere. We had a nice play today concerning this matter. Look and see.

"HOW TO GET TO THE KINDERGARTEN? TO WORK?"

You can use a car. It is better to share a carpool with another people, but if you don`t, you produce great amount of fumes, just by yourself ...

You can replace a car into the bus. It`s not as comfortable as with car, but your emission of fumes is lower!
That`s also good idea to attend a tram way to the kindergarten or a work place. It works on the different type of energy then on fuels, so using trams or trains reduces fumes emission as well.

Look at here! Riding bicycles needs just a body energy. No fumes. Just pleasure... Wind in hair and nice views on the way...

At the end, the most pleasurable way of getting to the place you want. WALKING. What is more, if you choose a good friend to walk with, you won`t regret... Look at Martyna, she is so happy in this picture:)

It`s time to discuss the air pollution matter!
We were talking about causes of air pollution and some results of it like smog and acid rain...

Can you imagine that we have spent an hour wearing protection masks? It was all for that to realise that it is not even a little bit comfortable... Yeah, now we know that it certainly isn`t.
What is more, we even look strange and unrecognizable wearing those masks! Look...

Today we have learnt a new song concerned with a topic of clean air and clean water. The text says that children want to breath clean air instead of smog going from factories, and that they want to have a clean water. Clean water and air gives us a health which is necessary to enjoy our lifes. This is a refrain of a song: ("Czysta woda zdrowia doda, to każde dziecko wie. Czysta woda zdrowia doda Tobie, i Tobie, i mnie..." which means: "Clean water gives a health. Every kid knows that. Clean water gives a health for you, and you , and me").

SAVE WATER RESOURCES

Today we were talking about the water resources. We know how important is to save water for others. Do you realize that nowadays people on Earth use the same water which was drunk by dinosaurs millions of years ago? Next generations will use the same water which we use, so we should feel obliged not to spoil water resources.

We were discussing possible actions children can take to save water, as every drop of water is important to be saved. Look what we found out:

PEOPLE ON EARTH (SO ALSO CHILDREN) SHOULD:

*Re-use the water for watering houseplants or cleaning.
*Avoid leaks. Ask parents to check faucets and toilets and fix leaks.
*Use a low-flow toilet that requires less for flushing.
*Avoid flushing unnecessarily. Don`t use the toilet as a trash can.
*Take the quick shower, or use a short amount of water in bath.
*Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Don`t let water run while washing your face.

Air pollution: a problem that we won't stand any more

These days we are talking about air pollution. Things start to become worse as time passes. Factories,cars, motorbikes have created a unbearable environment. What can we do? Is there any solution? We decided to make special masks and see how our life will be when we will be forced to wear masks like these in our everyday life. We didn't like it at all!!!

We also found a slogan to protest against air pollution: "Θέλουμε αέρα, αέρα καθαρό, θέλουμε οξυγόνο και γαλανό ουρανό" (theloume aera, aera katharo, theloume oxigono ke galano ourano). "We want air, clean air, we want oxygen and blue sky"

Then we went and informed the primary school's children about our protest and the effects of air pollution.

We have talked about what a good sea and a bad sea might look like. We thought about polllution of the seas and rivers and how that might happen. What would happen to the animals and plants in a polluted sea or river? The children drew their ideas, one half showing a good sea and the other half showing a bad sea.
